CBI CONDUCTS SEARCHES AT NINE LOCATIONS INCLUDING AIZAWL, IMPHAL, GURGAON IN A CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has today conducted searches at 9 locations including Aizawl, Imphal, Gurgaon at the premises of accused in a case relating to misappropriation of Government funds.

A case was registered on 20.11.2019 against the then four Chairmen of Manipur Development Society (MDS); former Project Director of MDS; then Administrative Officer of MDS and others under relevant sections of IPC and PC Act on the request of Manipur Government and further Notification from Government of India. CBI took over the investigation of the two cases which were earlier registered by Manipur Police. It was alleged that the accused while working as Chairman of Manipur Development Society from 30.06.2009 to 06.07.2017, in conspiracy with others, misappropriated Government funds to the tune of Rs. 332 crore (approx.) out of the total amount of Rs. 518 crore (approx.) which was entrusted to them for the purpose of executing development work.

During searches, cash of Rs. 15.47 lakh (approx.); old currency of Rs.  36.49 lakh (approx.); documents related to various properties including plots, houses, flats, shops etc.; luxury cars; details of various bank accounts and other incriminating documents were found.

Further investigation is continuing.
