TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF RS.1.57 CRORE TO AN OFFICIAL OF DEPARTMENT OF POSTS IN A DISPROPORTIONATE ASSETS CASE

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Ernakulam (Kerala) has convicted Shri P.P. Madhusoodhanan Nambiar, the then Mail Overseer, Department of Posts, Kannur U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.1.57 crore.

CBI had registered a case against Shri P.P. Madhusoodanan Nambiar, Mail Overseer on the allegations that while working at Chirakkal Post Office, Taliparamba Post Office & Sub-Divisional Post Office, Kannur during the period between 01.01.2003 to 23.04.2010, the accused amassed assets in his name and in the name of his family members disproportionate to his known sources of his income to the tune of Rs.1,59,14,146/-.

After thorough investigation, a chargesheet was filed in the Designated Court. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
