THREE YEARS IMPRISONMENT TO THEN PROJECT DIRECTOR, NATIONAL HIGHWAY AUTHORITY OF INDIA IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Special Court-II, CBI Cases, Ernakulam (Kerala) has sentenced Sh. Bitla Venugopal, then Project Director, National Highway Authority of India, Palakkad to undergo three years Simple Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 5 lakh in a bribery case.

CBI had registered a case on the allegations that the accused while working as Project Director, National Highway Authority of India, Project Implementation Unit, Palakkad had demanded a bribe of Rs. 90,000/- from the complainant for issuing NOC for construction of a building on a site abutting the National Highway at Thrissur (Kerala). CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed on 08.06.2008 while accepting the bribe from the complainant in his office.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed in the Designated Court.

The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him..
