CBI ARRESTS AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF NORTH EASTERN HILL UNIVERSITY IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Associate Professor & Head of Department, Bio Medical Engineering Department, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.40,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 against an Associate Professor & Head of the Department, Bio Medical Engineering Department, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong on a complaint alleging demand of illegal gratification of Rs.40,000/-. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while accepting illegal gratification of Rs.40,000/- from the complainant(who is pursuing his Ph.D under the accused). It was alleged that the illegal gratification was the proceeds of fake bills sanctioned by accused which were transferred to the bank account of the complainant. It was further alleged that as per the instructions of accused, the complainant had withdrawn cash for handing over to the accused. Searches were conducted at the office as well as residential premises of accused at Shillong, which led to recovery of certain documents & articles.

After the completion of Police Custody, the arrested accused was produced today before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Shillong and remanded to Judicial Custody.
