FOUR YEARS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF Rs. 2 LAKH TO THEN CHIEF MANAGER OF M/s. HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LTD. IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore has sentenced Sh. Manda Varaprasad Rao, then Chief Manager (IMM), M/s. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Bangalore to undergo four years simple imprisonment with fine of Rs. 2 lakh in a bribery case.

CBI had registered a case on 26.10.2004 on a complaint against Sh. Manda Varaprasad Rao, Chief Manager (IMM), M/s. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Bangalore, U/s. 7 and Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. It was alleged that the accused demanded a bribe from the complainant for stopping the invocation of Bank Guarantees furnished to M/s. HAL, Bangalore by complainant’s firm in lieu of the stock of electrical cables taken back by them, due to certain snag. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant. After investigation, a chargesheet was filed on 09.06.2005 against the accused.

The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
