CBI ARRESTS ACCOUNTANT GENERAL (ACCOUNTS & ENTITLEMENTS) CHENNAI AND THREE OTHERS IN AN ALLEGED BRIBERY CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested an Accountant General (Accounts & Entitlements), Chennai (Tamil Nadu); Senior Accounts Officer in the said office; an Assistant, PWD, Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvannamalai and another official working in PWD, Government of Tamil Nadu in Thiruvallur Collectorate in an alleged bribery case. .

A case was registered U/s.120-B of IPC r/w. 7, 12 and 13(2) r/w. 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegations that the accused entered into a conspiracy among themselves and in pursuance of the said conspiracy, the Accountant General through Senior Accounts Officer demanded illegal gratification for making favourable posting of said Assistant as Divisional Accountant under the control of his office, in PWD, Government of Tamil Nadu, Villupuram on payment of illegal gratification of Rs.5.50 lakh (approx.). The other official of PWD, Government of Tamil Nadu was allegedly mediating in the conspiracy. It was also alleged that the Senior Accounts Officer collected the gratification of Rs.5.00 lakh from the said Assistant in the office premises of Accountant General. CBI team intercepted the said accused persons and recovered the alleged bribe from the possession of accused persons.

Searches are being conducted at the residence of the accused persons.

Investigation is continuing.
