CBI ARRESTS A PRIVATE PERSON IN A CASE RELATING TO THE ALLEGATIONS OF UPLOADING/SHARING CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS AND IMAGES ON WHATSAPP GROUP AND CONDUCTS SEARCHES AT FIVE PLACES

The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested a Private Person, resident of Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh) in a case related to the allegations of uploading/sharing of child abuse videos and images on Whatsapp Group.

CBI has registered a case against five private persons, residents of Delhi, Maharashtra & Uttar Pradesh and others U/s 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000. It was alleged that members of a ‘Whatsapp’ group have uploaded/shared child abuse videos and images.

Searches were conducted at five places including Delhi, Noida, Kannauj (both in Uttar Pradesh) and Mumbai (Maharashtra) which led to recovery of mobile phones, tablets & laptops containing the alleged incriminating materialdepicting children in obscene, indecent and sexually explicit acts. It was also alleged that the material present and exchanged through the ‘Whatsapp’ group are prohibited as per the provisions of IT Act, 2000. During search, it was found that the group consisted of more than 100 members from India and also from around 18 countries.

Investigation is continuing.
