CBI REGISTERS FIVE CASES AGAINST CERTAIN CUSTOMS OFFICIALS AND OTHERS FOR ALLEGED DUTY EVASION IN IMPORT OF MOBILE ACCESSORIES

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered five cases U/s120-B of IPC r/w sec.420 of IPC and sec.13(2) r/w sec.13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against certain customs officials including five Examiners of Customs Department, Air Cargo Complex, Mumbai Zone-III; One Customs House Clearing Agent; three Importers and unknown others on the allegations of duty evasion causing loss of Rs.17.39 lakh (approx) to the Customs Department in the matter of import of mobile accessories through five Bills of Entry in the month of April, 2017.

It was further alleged that the Customs Officials had conspired with the Customs House Clearing Agent & importers and had not properly examined the consignments after comparing the imported goods with the packing list. The accused also allegedly gave false examination report in the type of articles imported and number of particular articles imported which exceeded the quantity as mentioned in the packing lists resulting in wrongful revenue loss to the Customs Department.

Searches have been conducted at six premises of accused persons which led to recovery of incriminating documents pertaining to the alleged imports.

Investigation is continuing.
