CBI FILES A SUPPLEMENTARY CHARGESHEET AGAINST FORMER MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT IN RAJDEO RANJAN (SENIOR JOURNALIST) MURDER CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has today filed a Supplementary Chargesheet against former member of Parliament and a resident of Siwan (Bihar) u/s 120-B r/w 302 of IPC and 27 of Arms Act in the court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Muzaffarpur (Bihar) in a case relating to the alleged murder of Sh. Rajdeo Ranjan, Senior Journalist.

CBI had registered the case on 15.09.2016, on the request of Bihar Government and notification from Government of India and took over the investigation of FIR No. 362/2016 dated 13.05.2016, earlier registered at Police Station, Siwan (Bihar) U/s 302/120-B/34 of IPC & Section 27 of Arms Act against unknown persons. It was alleged in the FIR that on 13.05.2016, Shri Rajdeo Ranjan (deceased) received a phone call in the evening and thereafter he left the office of Hindustan Newspaper & went towards Station Road. It was further alleged that at about 7.30pm, when he reached the fruit market near the Station, he was intercepted by unknown persons, who shot him dead. The Bihar police had filed chargesheet against six accused on 20.08.2016 U/s 120 B of IPC r/w 302 & 34 of IPC and Section 27 of Arms Act.

During investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet against one more accused on 22.12.2016. Further investigation was kept open.

During further investigation, certain oral, documentary and circumstantial evidences emerged. In view of this, the Special Judge for CBI cases, Muzaffarpur (Bihar) granted 08 days Police custody of former member of Parliament & resident of Siwan (Bihar). CBI had taken police custody of said accused on 29.05.2017 for questioning.

The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
