CBI REGISTERS A CASE AGAINST CERTAIN OFFICIALS OF PLANT PROTECTION QUARANTINE & STORAGE UNDER MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE & OTHERS AND CONDUCTS SEARCHES

      The Central Bureau of Investigation has today registered a case against Joint Director in the office of Regional Plant Quarantine Station (RPQS), Chennai; Joint Director (PP), Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storage, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi and Assistant Plant Protection Officer-cum-X Ray Technician; other Assistant Plant Protection Officer, Tuticorin; a Fumigation, Tuticorin and others. It is alleged that the officials demanded & acceptedillegal gratification from Customs House Agents (CHAs), Fumigators & Shipping Agents of Tuticorin for issuing Phytosanitary Certificates for exports & Consignment Release Orders for imports.

      The said Joint Director and other Joint Director (PP) were intercepted at the Chennai Airport while returning from Tuticorin and found to be carrying alleged gratification to the tune of Rs.7.10 lakh (approx) which they have allegedly collected from various CHAs.

      Searches are underway at various places including Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Madurai & Tuticorin. Investigation is in progress.
