AN OFFICIAL OF MTNL AND FIVE PRIVATE PERSONS SENTENCED IN A CASE FOR CAUSING LOSS OF RS. 2.97 LAKH TO GOVERNMENT EXCHEQUER

         The Special Judge CBI Cases, Tis Hazari Courts, New Delhi has sentenced Sh. Tejbir Singh, then Telephone Operator, MTNL Idgah Exchange, New Delhi to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 20,000/- and S/Sh.Sanjeev Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Sudesh Kumar, Ram Kumar & Naveen Kumar (all private persons) to undergo one year RI with fine of Rs.10,000/- for causing loss to Government Exchequer.

         CBI had registered this case on 23.06.1997, on the allegations that accused Tejbir Singh, then Telephone Operator, MTNL Idgah Exchange, New Delhi in conspiracy with private persons diverted the MTNL telephone line to a private PCO in return of pecuniary gain. An alleged loss of Rs.2.97 lakh (approx) was caused to Government Exchequer. After investigation, a chargesheet was filed on 15.12.1999 against said accused persons in the Designated Court, Delhi.

         The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
